FP7 INFLACARE

INFLA-CARE (Inflammation and Cancer Research in Europe) was a four year collaborative research programme, funded by the European Commission,  which aimed to develop new diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies for malignancies associated with chronic inflammation.  This project employed state-of-the-art pre-clinical models and cutting-edge technologies to characterize in detail the interactions between the tumour and its inflammatory microenvironment and to examine the role of inflammation-activated signal transduction in liver, lung and colorectal carcinogenesis.  The acquisition of this type of knowledge was expected to make a positive impact on the development of targeted therapeutic strategies and the definition of new disease biomarkers leading to improved prophylactic care. The IMTM team was led by professor Jiri Bartek was one of the most productive, and the IFLA-CARE was evaluated in 2012 as one of the most successful FP7 project (The Oncologist, 2012, 17: e26-32, doi: 10.1634/theoncologist.2012-0327).
