Medicinal chemistry

Introduction

The research program in Medicinal Chemistry brings together basic and applied research. The work centers around the synthesis and/or isolation of new organic compounds with potential biological activity. The larger goal is to identify novel active compounds, designate leads and subsequently optimize the leads for desirable physicochemical and pharmacokinetic properties. Research in the program includes the synthesis of specific classes of new organic compounds, derivatization of biologically active compounds for affinity chromatographic applications and the modification of chemical structures on the basis of biological tests. Chemical reactions are carried out in solution and solid-phase.
